“The common challenge is addressing people’s mind sets, challenging pre-conceived ideas, and stimulating the imagination”
With any worthwhile cause, from protecting the environment to protecting human rights, the common challenge is addressing people’s mind sets, challenging pre-conceived ideas, and stimulating the imagination.
The role of great art is to elevate our spirit and our mind. It can challenge ideas, help us wrestle with difficult concepts, and even progress a society’s mind-set. But awkward biases and gaps persist through art history and still to this day. For example, out of the approx. 1400 painters represented in the Louvre, only 22 are women!
The question “why” is the great invitation. Why do we think the way we do? Why do taboo subjects hinder exchanging constructive ideas? When it comes to elevating, protecting, and promoting great ideas, I believe taboo has no place.
The opportunities that women and men have at their disposal today are enormous. Representing this reality should start early, by exposing positive and visible role models to children. It all starts with education, from school and parents alike.
I am honoured to have been called upon to contribute in this inspiring cause, and I hope that my humble contributions may help bring perspective to the collective idea of inclusion and equality for all.
