As part of efforts to eliminate violence against women, the Women’s Rights Committee partnered with the charity Résonantes to develop “App-Elles”, a new personal safety app released in Monaco and 14 other countries at the end of September.

The app lets users:

  • alert friends or family if they find themselves in danger;
  • record real-time audio and geolocate whoever triggered the alert – the recordings can then be used in criminal prosecutions;
  • access the full range of safety, assistance, advice and emergency services available in Monaco.

The initiative is part of a wider policy aimed at providing comprehensive online resources to prevent domestic violence, by enabling residents and visitors in Monaco to get help and support quickly, or apply to be a trusted support person.

The Committee and Résonantes presented the app to the Monegasque public and professionals at a workshop event held at the Maison du Numérique on 26 and 27 September.

The free, discreet new resource provides victims, their loved ones and professionals with the information and help they need to tackle violence effectively.
