Organised as part of International Women’s Day 2024, “POWHER” highlighted the collective commitment of all those involved with the cause of female empowerment.

Launch

The special day of action, coordinated by the Women’s Rights Committee, was officially opened by HSH Prince Albert II and HSH Princess Stéphanie. To symbolise their commitment, Their Serene Highnesses placed messages containing their hopes for women’s rights on a ‘wishing tree’ installed at the Espace Léo Ferré. They were accompanied by a number of public figures representing Monegasque institutions, along with Committee members and partners.

Over the course of the day, the wishing tree was gradually covered with messages from all the visitors who attended.

Stands

A large number of institutions, government departments and non-profit organisations were represented at the event, setting up stands designed to educate and engage, raise awareness, and promote dialogue, and inviting visitors to take part in games and other fun activities.  In their own way, each of the 18 stands offered an insight into what Monaco is doing for the cause of women’s rights, focusing on four key themes: Education, Health, Employment, and Sport.

A platform for debate

Throughout the day, round tables and debates were held on the main stage of the Espace Léo Ferré, with speakers holding forth on issues including women in senior management roles and how violence is dealt with in Monaco, often in discussion with experts in the field.  The packed programme concluded with a talk by the event’s guest of honour, Ms Louise Cordeau, Chair of the Quebec Council on the Status of Women, who described the progress made on equality in Quebec in the last fifty years, and the challenges still to be overcome.

Videos of the speeches and debates are published every Wednesday on our YouTube channel

Fringe Workshops

Outside the main conference room, an interactive workshop area was set up, where non-profits Aux Coeurs des Mots, Action Innocence, She Can He Can and Association des Femmes Chefs d’Entreprise met and chatted with visitors in a calmer setting.

Closing show

The day ended with a series of shows presented by the Committee’s ambassadors to entertain the spectators. The artistic sequence kicked off with two musical numbers: A guitar and vocal performance with Florent Garcia, Nalla and a piano improvisation by Sarah Coponat. They were followed by a “sound and light” show created specifically for the event by Erick Ifergan and performed by Ada Tedeschi.
